Theme: Winter Magic in the Kitchen!

There’s nothing more magical than baking on a chilly winter day — especially when little chefs get to create their own sparkling snowflakes! In this Little Bites class, we’ll roll, cut, sprinkle, and decorate delicious sugar cookies while practicing early kitchen skills like measuring, mixing, and following simple steps. Perfect for tiny hands and big imaginations!

What We’re Making

Soft, buttery sugar cookies shaped like snowflakes, topped with shimmering white icing and sparkly sprinkles. These cookies are sweet, simple, and endlessly customizable — no two snowflakes are alike!

Ingredients

For the Cookies:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Icing:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 1–2 tablespoons milk (any kind)

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla

  • Optional: blue food coloring, white sanding sugar, pearl sprinkles, edible glitter

Tools Needed

  • Mixing bowl

  • Hand mixer or whisk

  • Measuring cups & spoons

  • Rolling pin

  • Snowflake cookie cutters

  • Baking sheet

  • Parchment paper

  • Small bowls (for icing)

  • Spoons or small piping bags

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Cream the Butter & Sugar

In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Little chef job: Count the scoops and help mix!

2. Add Egg & Vanilla

Crack in the egg (with grown-up help) and stir in the vanilla extract.
Little chef job: Crack the egg into a small bowl first to check for shells!

3. Mix Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together:

  • Flour

  • Baking powder

  • Salt

Pour the dry ingredients into the wet mixture a little at a time until a soft dough forms.

Learning moment: Talk about “wet vs. dry” ingredients!

4. Chill Your Dough

Wrap dough and refrigerate for 20–30 minutes. Cold dough = easier rolling and cleaner snowflakes.

5. Roll & Cut

Sprinkle flour on a clean surface. Roll dough to about ¼ inch thick.
Press snowflake cutters into the dough to create beautiful shapes.

Little chef job: Pick their favorite snowflake cutter!

6. Bake

Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake at 350°F for 8–10 minutes, or until edges look very slightly golden.

Let cool completely before decorating.

7.Decorate With Snowy Magic ❄️

Whisk icing ingredients in a small bowl.
Add tiny drops of blue food coloring for a frosty effect.
Use spoons or piping bags to drizzle icing and top with sprinkles.

Encourage creativity — every snowflake can be unique!

Learning Moments

  • Measuring = early math

  • Rolling + cutting = fine motor skills

  • Following steps = sequencing

  • Decorating = artistic creativity

  • Comparing snowflakes = science + nature learning!

Parent Tip

Let kids decorate on a baking sheet to contain the sprinkle explosion!
Freeze extra cookies undecorated and save for a snowy baking day.
